Allocated tasks may include the following.

• To provide fire safety surveying expertise, management, support and advice. To ensure fire safety is inspected, managed and maintained in accordance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and any other appropriate Health and Safety legislation.

• Responsible for identifying all fire related risks and issues across the portfolio and design, arrange and oversee the necessary remedial actions and work packages.

• Manage specialist consultants, designers and clerk of works in order to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and the council's fire safety strategy and policies.

• Manage and undertake FRA inspections and programme, including risk management of assets.

• Be responsible for identifying the technical solutions for fire safety works, and support investment teams in the delivery of major schemes and repair teams and contractors in the delivery of minor works.

• Responsible for liaising with other professional bodies including Building Control and the Fire Service.

Candidate Profile

Knowledge of preparing comprehensive fire related works specifications and work designs to a high standard.

Must hold the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management (or equivalent); further qualification at degree level in a construction related discipline; e.g. RICS (Building Surveying), RIBA is desirable but not essential.

Knowledge of current housing legislation and social issues impacting on service design delivery.

Extensive knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Order (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Experience of

• carrying out fire risk assessments to complex residential properties.

• completing detailed schedules of works and fire related specifications.

• delivery of investment schemes, including monitoring works on site.

• carrying out diagnostic and quality control inspections of building services and construction in buildings and plant rooms.

• liaising with residents, consultants, Quantity Surveyors and department staff.
Ability to

• communicate effectively with a wide range of people.

• effectively plan and organise a wide and challenging workload to tight deadlines.

• use MS Word and Excel packages.
