Contract currently 6 months
£20.06 per hour

Our client is looking for a qualified and experienced Planning Enforcement Officer.

The Planning Division is looking to recruit a planning enforcement officer for 3-6 months to a year to help with the workload of the existing team. You will take on an existing case load of varied enforcement work from across the Borough and take on new cases as they come in. You will be expected to deal with members, local residents and the general public on a daily basis and undertake site inspections across the Borough including high priority cases involving works to Listed Buildings. You will be working within the appeals and enforcement team, comprising 7 officers dealing with enforcement investigations and be expected to work with other internal departments of the Council and external stakeholders and taking formal action where required.

Example outcomes or objectives that this role will deliver:
- Manage a caseload of informal and formal investigations
- Work in a timely and customer focused fashion
- Undertake site visits across the borough
- Prepare delegated enforcement reports
- Lead on enforcement appeals (written representations to public inquiries)

To succeed, you’ll be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in planning enforcement and related areas, have a track record of dealing with a demanding caseload of enforcement cases, resolving breaches of planning control, meeting deadlines, taking formal enforcement action (including injunctions) and write succinct, accurate reports.

• Excellence in customer care and understanding of the role of local government in supporting residents through high quality services.

• Experience of working within Planning Enforcement in a local authority environment.

• Diploma or post graduate qualification in Town Planning with eligibility for Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

• Experience of investigating a range of breaches of planning control to secure successful resolution.

• Ability to work within a team to problem solve, find solutions and deliver effective services.

• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in person and in writing.

• Understanding of current and draft planning legislation at local, London regional and national levels
