We are requiring a DATA SCIENTIST for my client, a large global FMCG organisation based in Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire for a minimum 12 month contract due to a large volume increase in work. Driving forward the success of globally admired brands is a major deal for a £24billion company which produces other iconic brands. They have an enviable reputation for quality people, for innovative brands and for keeping them right at the cutting edge. This is an excellent opportunity to grow and develop within a highly renowned and unique business. This role starts ASAP via Adecco. The role will be 37.50 hours per week working company office hours, Monday to Friday. Pay rate will be between 34K and 44K dependant on experience. Due to the location of the role, you must have your own transportation.

The Data Scientist position is a new role within the research team provide analysis, design ideas and solutions using data science tools/technologies. There will be an emphasis on applying multivariate, data mining and machine learning techniques to datasets generated by the company researchers and ensuring that outputs can be translated into clear, accurate and actionable conclusions. The role holder will provide expertise and advice in data handling, application and interpretation of analytical results to associates within the company, ensuring the delivery of high quality scientific output.


Provide a source of expertise in the areas of machine learning, statistics and multivariate analysis to associates across all research programmes in the company. Such expertise will be applied to high dimensional, dependent data. Examples include finding phenotypic associations in high throughput sequencing data and classification of tri-axial accelerometer data.

Co-ordinate with the statistics community across the business and more broadly across company segments to set best practices in terms of data analysis and modelling techniques. The nature of the job demands that the data scientist should be able to communicate technical information at an appropriate level to associates with a wide range of prior knowledge and ability. Therefore, excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.

The jobholder will provide advice on data handling, statistics and/or machine learning to personnel, to enable accurate collation, analysis, reporting and publication of research trial data. To do this effectively will require an understanding of the company research plan and vision, and regular interaction with all members of the research team.

You will:

* Work with the research team to identify, define and deliver solutions to support the research program
* Deliver analytical capabilities to unlock the value of large biological and chemical datasets
* Provide expertise in data analytics, data mining, data visualization and interpretation
* Formal and informal training for company personnel as appropriate

* MSc or equivalent experience in statistics, computer science or a related field

* Machine Learning (Expert), familiar with supervised and unsupervised methods
* Thorough understanding of probability and statistics, Bayesian methods, time series analysis
* Experience of at least one scripting language: R, Python
* Experience with common data science toolkits
* Experience with data visualisation tools, such as D3.js, ggplot2, matplotlib
* Experience of structured database query languages, such as SQL
* Excellent technical planning skills, enabling the execution of a variety of projects through influencing
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential since the jobholder interacts with many people of varying statistical abilities
