Our client is a trailblazer in the fast-paced world of online, digital, social and mobile gaming with offices in central London and San Francisco (which you will also travel to occasionally or on an ad-hoc basis, (if necessary). With a swashbuckling, can-do, 'ground breaking' attitude and a very unhealthy dose of creativity, dynamism and innovation coursing through their veins and bordering on madness, they are looking for an all-star Head of Gaming to help build and expand their games offering.

The Head of Game Development is a new role that arisen with our client. Due to the fact that our client has seen significant success in recent years, it has become necessary to resource a leader who is able to inspire, motivate, develop and guide the game development teams in order to meet their delivery dates and resolve technical issues that arise.

The Head of Game Development must have deep understanding of the Unity game engine with at least 3 published titles, at least one of which must be a game as a service. The Head of Game Development must also have extensive management experience - the perfect candidate having served as either a lead client side programmer or a producer in some regard.

Responsibilities for the Head of Game Development:
• Working with teams to understand challenges faced on the client side technology and application delivery.
• Working with the Head of Development to address any issues faced with delivery against the requirements of the product team.
• Working with Mobile Product owners and Project Managers to gain an understanding of the current schedules of the games in question, managing potential issues with delivery.
• Resolving Unity based technical issues, or coming up with effective and quick work-arounds for issues that the teams face.
• Liaising with external agents such as the team at Unity in order to escalate issues regarding bugs in the Unity game engine.
• Actively involved I talent and succession initiatives in interviewing potential new team members alongside the Head of Development looking for the top 10% of Unity devs in their field.

Head of Game Development Personal Competencies:
• Deep knowledge of Unity and C#
• At least 3 published titles
• Understanding of build systems such as Gradle to help teams build, automate and deliver better software, faster.
• The ability to pick up new technologies quickly
• Long term management experience with at least 2 games shipped as a manager
• Excellent communication skills

Desirable skills for the Head of Game Development:
• Knowledge of other game engines
• AAA Game experience
• An interest in Casino and social gaming
• Team development experience
