Our client - Technology Start-up is looking to add a Head of Engineering to their team in London.

Responsibilities

* Lead, mentor and effectively work with cross-functional teams to build rapport, keep colleagues on task, and produce results that consistently meet expectations
* Be the owner of overall architecture and code
* The thought leader in technical solutions, especially encompassing Full Stack development
* Own & evangelise software engineering best practices throughout the team to create high-quality code (TDD, Continuous Delivery, Design Principles, Coding Standards)
* Understand modern infrastructure and deployment concepts like containers and auto-scaling
* Championing performance, reliability, quality and security of the products
* Influence product strategy and have a constant feedback loop with Product Owners to agree feature delivery on a value-vs-effort basis
* Contribute to the definition of reusable components/frameworks, common schemas, standards and tools.
* Propagate a culture of transparency and “self-help” so that the technology delivery goals are clear at all times rather than having bottlenecks within the team
* Experience standing up, structuring and leading test teams of technical resources to deliver complex deliverables
* Ability to set a vision and goals for the matching team and inspire colleagues cross-departmentally to follow your vision
* You deploy process when needed. Are a student of constant iteration and evolution of processes and creating/evolving/removing them based on the needs of the organisation
* Interfacing with Product teams for requirements gathering, closely interacting with the Engineering team to define the product scope & roadmap, selecting technologies for implementation
* Ensure clarity on NFR and address these requirements during Architecture definition phases
* Help Project Management and IT Operations in identifying key technical risks and mitigation plans
* Help Project Management in effort estimation and planning
* Future proof our technology through a keen interest in new development technologies, processes and technology stacks
* Have a fact-based perspective on all of the above

Requirements

Essential Skills & KPI’s:

* 10+ years of experience in software development/engineering including 5+ years in application and solution architecture roles. Experience in defining and implementing end-to-end large & complex platforms and leading mid sized teams of software engineers.
* Understanding of core concepts such as: common data structures and algorithms, profiling/optimisation
* eCommerce in a global environment
* Multi/omni channel delivery
* Multi-tenant platforms
* High performance & reliability in a “real-time” environment
* Distributed / multi-tier architecture
* Integration with 3rd party components
* Versioning, backward compatibility, migrations
* Greenfield development and/or packaged solutions
* Modern infrastructure and deployment concepts: containers, auto-scaling, micro-services, CI/CD, etc
* Follow trends in technology and have a point of view on industry trends, application of technologies to realise meaningful business solutions
* A proven track record leading the engineering of scalable large and complex platforms especially in the context of high performance, real-time transaction systems
* Demonstrated ability to manage technical teams
* Comfortable working on latest technologies within a lean agile environment
* Have a strong focus on delivery and quality
* Broad experience with projects across cloud services and full stack development
* Strong technical design and coding skills in several areas of full stack development
* Experience in B2B API integrations
* Extensive experience using agile methodologies (SCRUM, Kanban)
