This is an exciting career opportunity with one of the largest employers in the North East region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day planning, development and supervision of the mechanical based planned maintenance and repair service to facility customers, and will have 15 direct reports, as well responsibility for contractor management. The role will suit candidates with strong people management skills who have come from a mechanical time served/apprentice background and have demonstrable experience of working with heavy plant, including conveyor systems, cranes.

The Role
• First line management of engineering personnel within the engineers department
• Allocation of shifts and tasks to the engineering department
• Supervise the maintenance and development of a computerised maintenance management system
• Planning and management of fault and damage repairs to ensure prompt responses in line with the facility’s plant, equipment, infrastructure, marine assets and buildings
• Oversee and control engineers’ expenditure (Mechanical) in line with annual forecasts and budgets
• Supervise, monitor and agree the training of engineering personnel, including apprentices
• Manage the initial stages of discipline and grievance procedures
• Monitor and manage sickness absence and holidays for engineering personnel
• Oversee and control purchasing of engineering materials and sub-contract labour
• Health & Safety duties and responsibilities as shown in the Health and Safety Manual
• Provide QA assessments/inspections on designated equipment
• Diagnose faults on mechanical/hydraulic installations, plant, vehicles, engineering systems and equipment in accordance with current regulations and guidance
• Identify and source parts as required, check availability of spares and prepare documentation for authorisation
• Review and assess of stock-hold

The Person:
• Recognised Engineering apprentice
• City & Guilds Part 1 & 2 or equivalent
• ONC/HNC in Mechanical Engineering
• Proven people management experience including planning and allocating resources
• Extensive experience of working in mechanical maintenance and installation
• Experience of managing contractors
• Up to date knowledge of health and safety legislation
• Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and PPM software
• Full current driving license
• Flexible approach to work and able to work outside normal hours as required
