Based in Stirling, Edgar Stewart’s client is a highly successful medium sized business recently merged with a global oil and gas OEM giant.  They are at the forefront of the design and manufacture of next generation measurement and instrumentation equipment.  The business is going through a large change programme, and will look to double headcount and output in the next two years.  In order to help them do this they now need to make the key hire of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.


Reporting into the Design Engineering Manager, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will work within a talented team of mechanical, electrical and optical engineers taking ideas from customer requirements through to final design for manufacture and certification. 


Other key responsibilities are likely to include:   

Take design requirements and produce concept and detailed designs and follow them through to manufacturing
Communicating design intent and test results to senior management and product managers
Discuss and resolve design related production problems.
Component selection and preparation of preliminary BOM
Design verification, component and sub-assembly test design calculations as required
Work with global commodities managers to improve cost/quality and delivery
Contribute to a strong manufacturing ethic driving toward zero defect assembly & test
Occasional UK and overseas travel to customer and supplier sites may be required  Educated to degree calibre in Mechanical Engineering, we are looking for proven and experienced Mechanical Design Engineers.  It will suit candidates from product design, instrumentation design, aerospace, petrochemical, oil and gas and other heavy engineering environments.  Candidates with experience in the design of products to Machinery Directive, Pressure Equipment Directive or ATEX Directive would be very attractive.


You will need to have experience of Solidworks CAD, though consideration will be given to candidates with strong Inventor and ProE skills.  Attention to detail, ideally gained within a manufacturing environment, and with a prototype building background and demonstrable ability to draw.  You should have design verification experience using Solidworks Simulation including thermal, stress and vibration, fluid flow or other equivalent packages (e.g. ANSYS Workbench, CFX, etc)
