Pertemps Scotland are recruiting for an experienced and qualified cook to work in various residential care homes across Edinburgh. Shift times will vary but are generally between 7am- 7pm over 7 days.

The hourly rate for Monday to Friday is £8.97, and increases to £11.19 at weekends.

Main duties include:

- Organisation and supervision of food service operating within recognised best practice
- Oversee the provision of food to Service Users involving: menu planning, portion control, food preparation and cooking taking account of Service Users' specific dietary requirements and preferences
- Supervision of other employees in the kitchen environment (including allocation of duties, work rotas and training)
- Supervision of control of hygiene, health and safety In accordance with the establishment's schedule and food safety plan, e.g. Cook Safe.
- Checking kitchen equipment and reporting any faults to line manager
- Ensuring kitchen equipment is clean and maintained
- Spend time with residents and their families to get to know their individual needs, their likes and dislikes

Essential skills and experience:

- Qualified to SVQ / City and Guilds or equivalent
- Previous food preparation and handling experience, preferably in an environment that caters for vulnerable groups (from experience, professional Chefs usually are not suited to this type of environment)
- A good understanding of the nutritional and dietary requirement of the particular service group
- Have a warm and caring attitude and be willing to interact with service users and their families
- An ability to work well with others and follow instruction, whilst also taking initiative to ensure that tasks are carried out efficiently
