The Company: Our client is one of the leading roofing contractors in the South for both commercial and domestic properties. With a turnover of over £10m this is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable business.

The Role: Roofing Business Controller
This role will provide an independent and objective assessment of the business’s performance to the board (including group Managing Director and Financial Director). You will be working directly with the FD and Accounts Team but also very closely with contracts managers, estimators, and the part time quantity surveyor, to ensure that you always know how jobs are performing.
It will be vital to capture all of the financial implications of the jobs by working with the Finance team and administrator to keep the system up to date.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
• Creating performance updates for the Board each month, looking at what has, and what will (forecast), happen
• Identifying and managing action plans to improve performance
• Control jobs from quotation all the way through to final account and cash collection;
• Assist in estimating and appraising both new and existing contracts;
• Ensure that estimates are regularly reviewed and robust (i.e. clear on how they are made up);
• Reviewing and managing the work in progress (WIP) process to ensure that WIP calculations are prepared on the correct basis & calculated margin rates are appropriate;
• Managing the retention process to ensure that funds are claimed when they become due and to ensure all retentions are correctly in place;
• Identifying process improvements
• Working closely with the estimating and contracts teams, attending weekly and monthly internal meetings

The Location: Southampton

The Candidate: Our client is looking for a candidate with a background within contracting, either working for a Main Contractor or Sub Contractor. It is vital that you understand the financial performance drivers of a contracting business and how the contracting process works however your background could be in Quantity Surveying, Contract Management or Accounting.
You will need to be well organised with strong commercial awareness. Well trained IT skills with good working knowledge of MS Outlook, Excel, Word is also a must.
Some financial system skills and an understanding of accounting software principles desirable (knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP desirable).
