My client have over 2.7 million customers in the UK with revenues in excess of 800 million. They provide a number of different services and are hoping to grow the IT division in 2017.


This role will be part of an established team of individuals responsible for the database management and support many of the key transactional systems used to service the client`s customer base. The role holder will be a highly skilled competence in Oracle product administration, primarily the RDBMS, ensuring the provision of efficient data access to user applications at all times determined by the business, helping to provide a robust and scalable business service.

The jobholder will provide expertise in the administration of Oracle databases and their environments.   He/she will assist business users of Oracle databases to optimise the use of their database environments, including database design, query performance and reporting.  The jobholder will take the lead in efficient and effective fault diagnosis and rectification activities involving Oracle databases.  Creation, administration and maintenance of operational databases across the Group, including the web environment.

A proactive approach to issue-resolution will involve the jobholder in identifying issues and opportunities, identifying and implementing solutions to problems and keeping the company abreast of the possibilities presented by new technological advances.

Minimal experience

- Self-motivated with a professional approach to the activities associated with database management.
- Extensive expert knowledge surrounding Oracle core products, primarily, Oracle RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) to version minimum, Oracle RAC and Data Guard in a corporate environment.
- Knowledge of Oracle 12c is desirable
- An understanding of Oracle Fusion Middleware Products (Weblogic, Forms)
- An awareness of the availability of new Oracle products/product versions in terms of their applicability to the business objectives.
- In depth experience of Oracle utilities along with an appreciation of Oracle productivity tools and development mechanisms.
- Pro-active stance on database administration, monitoring and quality assurance.
- Ability to develop in-house tools to meet the companies special needs, such as database growth prediction and database reorganisation.
- Effective communication skills at all levels (see reporting structure).
- Understanding and alignment with business objectives and methods.
- Contributes to Business and IT debate on systems solutions and architecture from an Oracle perspective.
- When appropriate, the post holder will be expected to take part in an on-call rota and undertake out of hours work as required.
