Technology Trend Manager
(Innovative technologies to accelerate the industrialisation of low carbon propulsion systems for automotive applications)
We are working with a consultative organisation, which is funded predominately by Industry engagement and activity related to the growth of Low Carbon Propulsion technologies for transport, in conjunction with communities, industry and academic groups, to support the shaping and implementation of the UK’s Low Carbon technology research and development agenda.
The purpose of the role is to develop expert group networks and ensure effective dissemination and communication of roadmaps and capability opportunities to a variety of different audiences (government, industry, investors, academia etc). Create roadmaps and capability studies that will provide the direction for future funding competitions, capital investment, supply chain development initiatives and capability and skills development.
Due to a 10 year Government backed funded programme to invest into this very important and growing requirement for Low Carbon technology, our client in positioned well to support and work with industry leaders, major stakeholders and research organisations in offering a database of roadmaps / visioning documents that share alternative perspectives which are considered when determining individual subject roadmaps. This will include the identification of macro to micro level market driver considerations and recognition of major stakeholder interests and actions.

Duties and Functions:
To be the main lead and contact for the organisations focus on low carbon automotive propulsion technology trends.
Represent the organisation in the management and maintenance of Automotive Council technology roadmaps and capability studies.
Management of a Technology Trend Analyst.
Communicate and liaise the trend analysis across the wider organisations team.
Develop a standard process to create and refine technology roadmaps, utilising external agencies as required and within agreed budgets.
Develop a process to ensure that the roadmaps evolve to be a living document around which special interest groups provide on-going input in order to capture and report on-going sentiment and advances in technology observed through technology scanning or industry/academia input.
Establish a global technology scanning capability, focussed on roadmap topic areas, plus vehicle usage and market trends.
Manage the dissemination of the roadmaps and assist in enquiries / requests for greater detail or additional research.
Support marketing / publicity material promoting the organisations road-mapping capability and enhancing the organisations credibility in both UK and global contexts.
Work with partners (including the Automotive Council Supply Chain Group and Technology Group) and service providers to refresh and maintain a UK low carbon propulsion technology capabilities study
Work with the business development team to develop a potential revenue generating product supporting the creation of roadmaps for 3rd parties (SME’s / industry groups)

Establish a network of highly motivated technology experts from across industry, academia that actively share and contribute their knowledge and technical expertise in supporting on-going roadmap development.
Establish and document processes that can be utilised by internal staff (or 3rd parties) as a standard underlying approach to the creation of technology roadmaps.
Publish, maintain and adopt a guardian approach to the Automotive Council roadmaps and UK Capability study ensuring their continued relevance.
Create and regularly update supporting “Automotive Sector Environmental material which will act as a core resource for the early stage development of a range of Technology roadmaps. This will include consideration of changes in regulatory and legislative frameworks (local and international).
Establish mechanisms for securing a broad range of inputs and disseminating analysis to a broad range of stakeholders across government, industry and academia
Work with the International events team, support activities for showcasing UK advanced propulsion technologies and demonstrating their alignment with the technology roadmaps.
Develop conceptual amalgamation perspectives, using a range of roadmaps to determine potential future scenario’s that can be shared with Automotive Council members, wider industry and academic representatives to support future market trending forecasts.

Experience of developing multiple stakeholder strategic consensus and running / facilitating workshops and gaining support for outputs that will be publically shared and from which future policy’s and strategic directions maybe derived.
Strong experience of supporting industry & government technology development agendas
Experience of commissioning and managing 3rd party consultancy support.
An Automotive market background, including experience of market analysis and appreciation of understanding the impact of technology trends and creation of relevant solutions that can capitalise on new market opportunities.
A Business or Engineering related education to degree level or considerable relevant experience.
Good experience of managing multiple programme streams and project portfolios across multiple themed areas.
Experience of handling change effectively and positively and provide innovative solutions to overcome entrenched ways of working and constraints.
Experience of new product development cycles.
Good Project Management skill
Excellent communication skills
Ability to hold the interest and advise groups of people with new ideas and processes (including presenting to large audiences and senior stakeholders).
Creation of business processes that can be used by the organisations staff, that include global technology scanning, roadmap generation and maintenance, gap analysis techniques, scenario assessment, market impact analysis and effective knowledge management.
