Practice Accountant

This role reports into the Practice Manager and has responsibility for our Client's Accountancy Practice based in Hertford.

As a qualified accountant (minimum AAT) the expectations of the role are to be able to assist in the running of the practice and be the key contact for technical queries. There will also be a responsibility for own clients.

Xero is the main system used so it is essential that the incumbent of the role is an expert user or license holder. Free Agent is also desirable.

Supporting the Practice Manager

* To help deliver business goals as agreed
* Maintain best practise procedures, workflows and delivery standards
* Ensure that all client work is requested, completed, delivered and billed in advance of statutory submission deadlines and meets the desired quality standard
* Ensure compliance and legal accountability, including HMRC contact for all tax areas
* Set up and manage arrangements with third party business partners
* Input creative ideas to improve efficiency and scope of business services

Client Management

* Manage the groups accounts
* Manage and build client relationships and own personal accounts.
* Provide business and tax planning advice
* Ensure that client deadlines and service delivery standards are met at all times
* Assist with growth strategy, through new business generation and client retention
* Liaise with HMRC in relation to client tax affairs

Business Reporting

* Ensure that practice meets its legal, statutory and professional reporting obligations
* Design relevant KPI reports that measure performance and key business goals, for review with the executive team
* Work with the Finance Manager to maintain and analyse sales, purchase and nominal ledgers for the business, including partner capital accounts
* Prepare and submit monthly management accounts (with commentary) and HMRC returns (VAT & PAYE)
* Prepare partnership trial balance, financial statements and tax return, for submission to HMRC annually

* Presentation/reporting skills, this is required when reporting to the board.

Knowledge required:

* Must have had experience in an accounting practice, including providing advice to clients. MUST have contractor experience.
* Must be qualified (AAT/ACA/ACCA)
* Xero is essential, SAGE/Quickbooks, Free agent, tax calc are desirable.
* Must be up to date on accounting and legal practices
* In depth knowledge of small business accounts and both corporate and personal tax (direct and indirect)
* Ability to coach and mentor team members
* Be familiar with the structure and operations required to successfully manage an accounts practice
