We have had an exciting opportunity arise for a Technical Manager based in Birmingham. The client we are representing specialises in cast component solutions. We are looking for an individual with experience within a foundry industry, a background in gravity die casting and metallurgy would be prefered.

As Technical Manager the candidate will be responsible for managing a team of four multi-disciplined Engineers to ensure our current product portfolio is adequately supported.
Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for all aspects of product & mechanical design plus management of 3D CAD systems. It is anticipated this ‘hands on’ portion of the role will be at least 50% of the individual’s activities. The successful candidate will be need to be comfortable in a Management/communication role as well as undertaking product design activities.

Key Accountabilities:

> To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed by your line manager
> Health & Safety – adherence to all Company Health & Safety Policies, Procedures and Safe Working Practices
> Managing Product Support & Custom Product team – electronics, mechanical & test
> Manage all mechanical design aspects of existing product portfolio
> Support product design in new projects
> Responsible for mechanical drawings and 3D CAD data – SolidWorks & NX
> Management of other engineers, whilst retaining a hands-on approach
> Management and planning of external resource, when required
> Work closely with Production & Purchasing to ensure proposals can be manufactured to cost
> Work with QA Department to resolve field issues & aftersales
> Support test plans of Major Projects team

Key Skills / Expertise:

> Strong man management & communication skills
> Familiarity with 3D CAD packages – especially SolidWorks
> Proven experience in product design
> Sound understanding of plastic injection moulding, die casting & sheet metal – design & tooling
> Comfortable managing multi-disciplinary projects involving electronic design & test
> Thorough understanding of mechanical design concepts
> Production engineering and Design for Manufacture skills
> Detailed and quality conscious with a sharp focus on schedule & delivery
> Able to contribute and thrive in an exciting, dynamic and fast moving environment
> A team player with excellent interpersonal and cross-functional skills
> Innovative along with a methodical and systematic approach to work
> Ability to work on own initiative and have good product design skills

Other Requirements:

> Able to motivate & mentor other engineers
> Excellent verbal and written communications, especially in explaining complex technical concepts
> Proven experience of managing external contractors and partners
> Confident in using 3D CAD and ability to learn other packages
> Must be willing undertake UK travel
> Ideally degree qualified in a relevant subject (Mechanical Design/Product Design)
> IT literate (MS Office etc.)

Working Monday to Friday, Days must be flexible with regards to working hours.

Salary £45,000 per annum. 25 days holiday and company pension once permanent.
