Our client is a leading Defence supplier who specialise in supplying advanced technology systems to the global market. Employing over 10,000 people worldwide and over 60% in the Technical/Engineering functions, the company is widely considered to be a pioneer in the development of advanced defence technology systems.

The Opportunity

The Category Manager is a strategist -influencing and anticipating internal stakeholders' requirements and creating the appropriate supplier base through analysis of the market, and development of relationships with suppliers capable of long term consistent delivery.

The Category Manager leads the delivery of major and/or complex competitions and is responsible for drafting and negotiating contracts

What skills are we looking for?

* Excellent stakeholder management/ influencing skills
* Previous experience of selecting and managing a portfolio of suppliers
* Management experience - within a European cultural environment an advantage
* Proven ability to influence multi-functionality at all levels within the organisation
* Project and risk management experience
* Experience of managing multi-functional teams
* In depth knowledge of the categories
* Understanding of technical data packs and configuration control
* Understanding of cost make up
* Supply Chain knowledge (continuous improvement philosophy)

* Fluent in the English language
* Additional language skills would be an advantage (French, Italian, German preferred)
* Procurement professional preferably educated to degree level
* Professional accreditation an advantage
* Engineering experience/qualifications would be an advantage
