Salary: from £40,000 up to £50,000/pa

Our client a Higher Education sector is looking for a Philanthropy Manager to join their fundraising team.

Main duties
Fundraising & relationship building

- Personally manage a portfolio of around 50 of the organisation`s highest-ranking prospective donors in the UK and overseas, building and maintaining a long-term, sustainable relationship between them and the organisation.
- Identify and establish new principal gift level opportunities and relationships (especially with non-alumni) by mobilising existing networks and identifying the organisation projects that have a global appeal and/or Birmingham USP.
- Work with the senior colleagues to identify opportunities linked to strategic priorities, to assist in the cultivation process, and to bring gifts to fruition.
- Connect the interests of High Net Worth individuals (HNWIs) with the strengths of the organisation and develop tailored ‘principal level` (£1m+) cultivation and solicitation plans, asking personally (where appropriate).
- Use creativity and initiative to identify and react to all fundraising opportunities.
- Maintain detailed records of all actions taken and information collected on the Raiser`s Edge database.
- Responsibility for adhering to relevant fundraising regulation and current data legislation whilst ensuring fundraising is ethical and that due diligence is undertaken as necessary.


- Delivering against set targets, including but not exclusively, the number of visits to potential donors, the number of solicitations made, and the amount of funds raised.
- Work towards a year-on-year incremental increase in targets.
- Build a strong, sustainable pipeline of prospects to maximise the success of future
- performance.

Person specification:
The Philanthropy Manager will excel in the following areas:

- Strong track record of securing leadership and principal (6 and 7 figure) gifts for charitable causes.
- Demonstrable record of building relationships and engaging with leading philanthropists and HNW individuals both in the UK and internationally.
- An ability to identify and build new networks with leading philanthropists both in the UK and internationally.
- Ability to connect the interests of HNW individuals with the strengths of the organisation and put forward the best possible funding proposals which align to these interests.
- Significant experience of working in a target-focussed fundraising office, in higher education if possible.
- The ability to write fundraising proposals and to tailor academic proposals for fundraising purposes.
- Passion for, commitment to, and knowledge of higher education and the role of philanthropy.
- The desire to support colleagues in the achievement of individual and collective goals and to celebrate others` success as positively as your own.
- An understanding of, and experience in, share, legacy, and other ways of tax-efficient giving in the UK and overseas and an understanding of the relevant charity law.
