Prospero Teaching are working alongside a Special Needs School in Kensington who are seeking a Qualified Primary teacher who has experience of teaching students with Secondary age Autistic students. Starting: September 2017

About the school
This is a small secondary school educating 40 students who are on the Autistic spectrum. The school is a well-established school providing an education to secondary aged students with a statement of special educational needs or an education, health and care (EHC) plan and a range of other needs.
The Headteacher and staff work collaboratively through consultation, advice, assessment, provision of INSET and team teaching to develop skills and understanding of inclusion for pupils with SEN. There is huge scope for progression and development once working at the school through a range of training and CPD including ASDAN, TEACCH, Makaton Enhancement and Speech and Language Impairment plus much, much more!
The school develop excellence in practice through research based, multidisciplinary approaches for support and training.
The ideal candidate will have a PGCE in Secondary Education and (ideally) 1 / 2 years’ experience in an SEN setting specifically working with students with Special Education Needs.
As per many SEN schools they have a range of teachers, Learning Support Assistants, Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language, Physio and Occupational Therapists and they integrate these therapies within the curriculum and throughout the school day.
•You will be teaching a Secondary aged students with Autism
Knowledge of ASDAN would be an advantage
•Someone with a Secondary background would be fantastic
•Class sizes are 7 - 8
•There will be 3 /4 - lessons per day
•5 Teaching assistants in each class
The Teacher will have:
•Secondary trained teacher
•Knowledge of the National Curriculum and can work on P Scales
•Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, TEACCH, Plevels
•Ability to tap into a student’s imagination and expand upon sensory tools
Job description below:
•Teaching National Curriculum subjects, which may have been adapted to pupils’ needs
•Helping pupils to develop their confidence, independence, abilities and attitudes
•Preparing lessons and teaching materials
•Marking and assessing work
•Experience in a similar environment already
•Working to specific EHCPS which will be updated / reviewed tri-weekly.
•Working with other professionals, such as medical professionals, speech and language therapists and Educational psychologists
Prospero Teaching requires all teachers to have a fully enhanced DBS check, minimum of two references plus a face to face interview.
