I am currently looking for a Health & Safety Manager to work within the Operational Delivery part of my clients business; with responsibility for safety within the day to day running of the Country's road network. The position will be a mixture of both office based and site based work. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team dedicated to changing safety culture and ensuring everyone who uses and works on our road network gets home safely.

Duties:

Challenging employees and business leaders so they put health and safety at the forefront of business planning to develop and sustain a high performing health and safety culture.

Acting as client representative with responsibility for developing robust, collaborative relationships with designers and contractors to ensure health and safety is at the forefront of all construction projects.

Collaborating widely to ensure that employees comply with safety legislation and safety policies and practices are followed to minimise reputational threats due to operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.

Using knowledge of health and safety legislation to improve business awareness of the consequence of failure to act.

Responsible for the development of the project health and safety plan; developing the team's health and safety agenda; and providing functional input to team decisions

Practically supporting the assurance of health and safety design, construction, operations and maintenance objectives

Provide coaching and support to others to deliver Health and Safety programmes and initiatives.

Consult with and influence the wider business on health and safety matters affecting organisational performance.

Engage business leaders to advocate and demonstrate compliance with health and safety policy and champion interventions.

Ensure effective recording of incidents, accidents and near misses and lead the investigation process in order to report on findings and inform decision making.

Use management information on the effectiveness of policy, systems and processes to help improve performance.

Monitor organisational performance in respect of health and safety and feedback to appropriate governance forums.

Use health and safety performance data to inform business strategy and decision-making.

Proactive and preventive action to risk management

Use management information on the effectiveness of arrangements and risk controls to help improve performance.

Monitoring performance in respect of health and safety and supporting action to deliver improvement

Promoting innovation and organisational learning and sharing as springboard to performance improvement

Experience/Qualifications:

Membership of a recognised professional body (Essential)

NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent in Health and Safety Desirable (some flexibility)

A degree in a science or engineering discipline (Desirable)

Auditor qualification (Desirable)

Recognised Incident Investigation qualification (Desirable)

Experience working within Highways would be desirable alternatively experience in Construction, Engineering or High Risk Industries would be suitable.
