Working as a Estimator/Senior Estimator for this specialist civil engineering groundworks division of multi-disciplinary PLC contractor. They have long industry pedigree, have stayed focused on local groundworks, earthworks and small civils projects in Bristol & South West, primarily servicing major homebuilders. They are 'family feel’ and you will be the link pin between supportive commercial and technical teams working on pre and post construction.

The Estimator role itself, working under your own initiative, with close liaison with our Managing Quantity Surveyor, Technical Director and Manging Director, particularly prior to the submission of any Tender. The successful candidate must be commercially aware, being a key member of a team working together to deliver projects in accordance with contract drawings & specification, within financial criteria and on program.

Key duties and responsibilities for the position:

  • Reviewing all Tenders received for suitability in terms of geographical area, nature and size of works etc.
  • Acknowledging Tenders received and informing clients should we decide not to accept the invitation to price the works.
  • For Tenders actively being priced enter information on 'Tender Board’ and update progress through to submission of Tender.
  • From either the 'in-house’ or client supplied Bills of Quantities, prepare schedules for both material and sub-contract enquires.
  • Send out sub-contract Tender Send out sub-contract Tender
  • Send out sub-contract Tender enquires and issue to Buying Dept. schedule of materials with specification as required within the Tender documents.
  • On receipt of the Material and Sub-Contract quotations complete analysis through to a conclusion taking into account rates, availability and volume of works currently being undertaken or supplied by Sub-Contactor / Supplier.
  • Liaise with the Technical Director regarding items such as overall program, preliminary requirements, specific technical issues,

  • On completion and prior to final submission, a meeting will be held to review the proposed Tender sum and make any amendments as deemed necessary to ensure a comprehensive, competitive Tender is being submitted.
  • Based on the meeting referred to previously, prepare a list of qualifications to be submitted with the Tender to the Client.
  • In accordance with Tender instructions return any additional information

  • In accordance with Tender instructions return any additional information being requested when the Tender is submitted, unless instruction has been issued to the contrary, i.e. Bill of Quantities may be withheld from the initial submission.
  • Respond to any Post Tender enquires and stay in closed liaison with the client following Tender submission and update 'The Team’.
  • In the case of unsuccessful bids, file all relevant documents into the archive for a retention period of 12 months.
  • In the case of successful bids, should it be necessary convert the format into a working document for the Quantity Surveying Dept.
  • It will be necessary to liaise with the QS Department as required throughout a contract to assist on how quantities / rates were arrived at, particularly where variations due to drawing amendments etc. are instructed.
  • Attending meetings throughout the Tendering process as requested by the client.
  • Following a successful bid attending Client & Internal Pre-Construction meetings.
  • Attend Monthly Contact Management Meetings.
  • Complete and pre / post qualification paperwork.

You will be

Ideally qualified to HNC / HND / Degree standard with the minimum CSCS accreditation being the Manager’s Black Card. (Should the candidate not hold a CSCS to this accreditation we will assist in obtaining it subject to certain criteria being met.) Good communication and computer skills particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word are essential. A knowledge of 'Planswift’ would be an advantage but not essential. A sound knowledge of the Sewers for Adoption Specification, Local Authority Highway Specifications and NHBC requirements in respect to our activities preferable, although all the information required in terms of estimate preparation is generally contains within Tender documents. Training will be provided for our various systems including our bespoke costing software.
