Commercial Manager (Construction)

Head Office is in Gravesend, a short commute to London via Highspeed link

(This role will be primarily based offsite in and around London)

Salary: £60,000+ Negotiable

This is an excellent opportunity of a permanent position with an exciting, long established, Circa £20M company, having majority of projects in and around the London area. The main objective of this position is to deliver commercial functions on projects, as part of a small commercial team and advise operational staff on any commercial implications to ensure cost efficiency, value to the Client and repeat business. Key Duties

• Lead the commercial and financial activities of projects

• Produce estimates and submit tenders

• Develop and maintain relationships with Client project and procurement teams

• Advise project teams on contractual issues

• Attend sites as required by Project Directors and Client representatives

• Identify the commercial implications of Client instructions, strategies and plans

• Liaise with Client representatives regarding change notices, variation orders and unpaid invoices

• Evaluate variation orders and claims

• Review Subcontract Conditions and authorise Subcontract payments

• Review contents of external valuations and payment certificates

• Maximise performance of projects commercially

• Understand the Company's Health and Safety Policy and appreciate the allocated responsibilities

Key Working Relationships

• External: Clients, Sub Contractors, External Auditing Bodies

• Internal: Commercial Director and members of commercial team, Ops/Finance/HR/Finance Director, Project/ Contracts Managers, Site Managers, Buying and Accounts

Essential requirements

• At least 5 years relevant experience in surveying and estimating

• A proven track record in surveying for all forms of contracts for major contractors

• To be able to prepare valuations/applications on projects (including undertaking site visits) and estimate for tendering purposes

Desirable requirements

• Knowledge of construction logistics, security and general builders work packages.
