A market leading talented business is looking for a Graduate Materials Scientist to join their team.

As a member of the Engineering team providing technical design and layout expertise for both customer & internally released & development product, you will ensure successful execution of changes, launching of new products and customer satisfaction. 

Job Objectives

• To undertake identified aspects of the design and development of new High temperature product
• To actively improve or optimise aspects of design, function or processing of existing High temperature and Standard products.
• To support other departments with urgent issues relating to existing designs or testing, and to formulate effective solutions

Key Responsibilities

• As part of the team develop microcircuits suitable or harsh environment applications
• To design & develop new products
• Research and develop new material sets & processes from concept to qualification
• Work with the team solving complex technical problems on new and existing products.
• Accurately capture customer requirements and report program progress via both regular conference calls and written reports
• Research and attend conferences to determine industry direction and use this new knowledge to lead future development
• To support Qualification of new or existing products
• To characterise material systems for thick film, epoxy and solders for attach & wire bondability able to perform over a wide temperature range
• Write technical papers and present at technical conferences
• Support & deputise for site chemist
• To participate in cost saving and continuous improvement activities.

Technical Competencies

Any or all the following are desirable, but not essential, and should have been covered by the sections of the degree:

• To have a working knowledge of thick film technology & manufacture
• To have an understanding of thick film materials of both current and high temperature applications
• To have an understanding of Epoxide & Cyanate Esters materials for both current and high temperature applications.
• Design with both Analogue and Digital Components.
• To have a working knowledge of Simulations tools.
• To be familiar with CAD drawing tools.

Education & Experience

It is expected that applicants will be qualified to level 6, or better, of the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degrees in Material Science or Chemistry

However, applicants will be considered in light of their technical knowledge, experience and demonstrable skills where formal qualifications at level 6 or above are incomplete or absent.

A superb package is available for the right candidate including private health care, company pension, salary progression plan and an initial salary of £22-£26k. Relocation assistance is available for candidates from outside the area and 12 months accommodation allowance
