Safe Families for Children Scotland was launched in October 2014 and has an ambitious vision to work with families in crisis and reduce the number of children entering the care system in Scotland. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic candidate to join our Family Support Team in Edinburgh as a Family Support Worker.

The Family Support Worker is a key staff role which involves working with families referred to Safe Families and facilitating support from volunteers recruited from the local church. You will work as part of a team and be involved from initial referral, typically from the local authority, education or health, to include risk assessment of the family situation, identifying family goals, matching and introducing volunteers, providing on-going mentoring and support to volunteers, to deciding when outcomes have been achieved and the case can be closed. The role requires experience of working with children and families, and knowledge and application of safeguarding principles and processes.

The successful candidates will have proven management of complex plans for children and families. You will be able to demonstrate competence and experience in assessing parenting skills and risk in a social care environment. You will understand the importance of safeguarding principles and process as well as having knowledge of current research and good practice relating to children and families. You will hold an accredited professional qualification within the Health and Social care or related fields and will be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or equivalent.

As Safe Families is a Christian organisation this post carries an Occupational Requirement in line with Equality Act 2010. Please note that one reference must be from your church minister or leader to endorse your live and active Christian faith and commitment. Successful applicants for this post will require an enhanced disclosure and membership of the PVG scheme.
