The successful Performance Engineer II (Java, JVM, CI, Linux, Tomcat, AWS) will be a part of some of the most interesting projects using the most ground-breaking technologies to help drive the business forward.

The ideal Performance Engineer II (Java, JVM, CI, Linux, Tomcat, AWS) will be trusted to:
  • Collaborate with engineers to build performant and reliable software
  • Promote and instil performance and reliability matters throughout the technology group
  • Perform evaluations in the realms of modern technologies, hardware, infrastructure and cloud computing
  • Liaise with teams to discover optimal ways to scale application infrastructure for our continually increasing growth
  • Address system reliability through analysis of production incidents and resolve root causes, driving remedial actions where appropriate
  • Assist performance testers in establishing CI-based automated performance tests and advocate best practices

Essential Competencies

  • Hands-on experience of engineering Java-based software to make it faster or otherwise more efficient
  • Profiling Java-based components
  • JVM performance and garbage collection tuning
  • Linux OS performance considerations, including use of monitoring tools
  • Optimisation of Web-based service containers like Tomcat
  • Ability to analyse and solve performance issues spanning multiple systems
  • Understanding of layer 7 protocols and network devices
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work across teams

Desirable Competencies

  • Cloud computing (AWS preferred)
  • Container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes preferred)
  • Distributed database management systems (Cassandra preferred)
  • Client-side performance factors
