Assistant Accountant / Project Accountant

McGinnis Loy Associates is proud to be working with a highly renowned business services company who have various autonomous divisions across the UK & Internationally. Their Central London office is now looking to recruit a technically strong Assistant Accountant/Project Accountant who will be responsible for specific project month-end duties, ensuring project financials are accurately planned and reported, accounting for live projects and producing full-life cost and revenue forecasts. Working closely with Project teams to ensure robust project financial trackers are in place and regularly reviewed too, other key duties include:

  • Liaising with the project teams to provide financial research and initial costing of projects during the customer tender process
  • Establishing good communication with Project teams in the UK and Internationally
  • Preparing regular financial updates for the project and finance team, including a variance analysis, review and follow-up with relevant people
  • Visiting overseas offices to support local finance processes or conduct internal audits.
  • Helping to maximise the commercial opportunities within various aspects of decision making in the projects
  • Making sure each project has a robust financial tracker in place and that full life cost and revenue projections agree to contracts, and are up to date
  • Undertaking thorough reviews of project data to build a firm understanding of financial transactions affecting project performance.
  • Assessing project accruals and prepayments and where necessary posting journal entries to Oracle.
  • Reviewing monthly cash books and bank reconciliations from overseas offices and uploading to Oracle
  • Ensuring that transactions entered by the Accounts team are correctly allocated on the ledger and aligned with Project Budget
  • Assisting with production of Management Accounts at month-end
  • Thoroughly conducting a quarterly "health check" on the projects and reporting to stakeholders
  • Ensuring financial procedures are documented and manuals are kept up to date

To be considered for the Assistant Accountant role you should ideally be a degree-educated and part-qualified CIMA or ACCA Accountant with strong Project Accounting experience in a fast-paced commercial environment or be seeking your first in-house Accounting role from an Accountancy Practice. Experience in financial accounting, reporting, controls and management systems/processes would be desirable, along with up to date IFRS knowledge.

Experience in the management, preparation and execution of a range of financial reports; experience with Oracle or Hyperion systems would be beneficial and you should be commercially minded with excellent analytical and data interpretation skills. Due to the level of senior management and directors you will be dealing with, you should also possess the necessary gravitas to work alongside and influence senior stakeholders.
