Help Establish the Mockingbird Project in a London Local Authority

Another London based Local Authority has received funding to roll out the Mockingbird Project across it's Fostering services. This is an excellent opportunity to work with an innovative approach to Social Work which has already been shown to work in the Local Authorities where it has been piloted. As a part of the DfE's Children's Social Care Innovation Fund the Local Authority is looking to take on additional Staff to help support the project.

Essentially the Project aims to develop 6 - 10 "sattellites" of Foster and Kinship carers around a dedicated hub, which is able to provide specialist support when necessary. Furthermore the project also encourages drawing on established relationships when placing a child in foster care so that they are supported by people they know and are comfortable in their environment.

The fostering service is a very stable service and the majority, if not all, of the staff are employed on a permanent basis and have been in post for more than a few years. This is a well established team that are very accommodating to locum and permanent staff alike. Furthermore the Team Manager is very approachable and is also a long standing member of the service. Senior Managers in the Local Authority have created an environment which is focused on empowering Social Workers and thus your manager will do all they are able to ensure that you are supported and have the confidence to work autonomously and effectively.

The Local Authority is currently performing very well and this is just one of the projects it has which aims to further develop the Authority's Children's Services. The role will see you assess prospective foster carers and connected carers and thus you should have experience of carrying out comprehensive Form F's and Connected Person's assessments.
