Assistant Conservation Officer urgently required for a 6 months temporary assignment with our local authority client based in East London.

The role will involve:
•Assisting in the provision of expert advice on managing listed buildings and conservation issues in planning applications and development proposals, planning policy development and enforcement, in relation to heritage assets.

•Assisting in providing the conservation assessment of planning and listed building consent applications in relation to a project for the repair, renovation and improvement of around 400 Council owned properties.

•Liaising with community groups and others in a project to rationalise and update the Council’s database of locally listed buildings, including GIS mapping and presentation on the Council’s website (training will be given in ICT aspects as required).

You will need to have:
•Enthusiasm for and commitment to the conservation of historic buildings
•A degree, diploma or equivalent course in Conservation or an allied subject, such as Architecture or Town Planning
•Some experience of working in conservation, perhaps through a previous local authority role, through internship, volunteering or third sector work.
•A good understanding of national planning policies relating to the historic environment and good practice guidance including ‘Conservation Principles’.
•The ability to read and interpret drawings submitted with planning applications.
•The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
