ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER (EHSM)

BASED NEWPORT SOUTH WALES - MANUFACTURING / ENGINEERING

Based in Newport South Wales, Edgar Stewart's client is a well known and highly respected semiconductor OEM business.  They supply equipment to clients on a global basis, and are at the forefront of technology design.  With a range of technologies on the market and a steady flow of R+D work in progress, they now need to make the key hire of a highly experienced Environmental Health and Safety Manager.

Reporting into the HR Director, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager, will be responsible for the leadership and guidance of the Environmental, Health and Safety provision at site to enable the company to comply with relevant statutory legislation and regulatory permits, as well as achieving best practice.   You will lead the development, implementation and communication of all relevant EHS policies, management systems, KPI's and site culture.  Other key responsibilities will include:

• With key stakeholders, set direction, lead and develop a positive safety culture within the site and to continually improve processes, practice and procedure to effectively control risk
• Manage and continually develop the accredited management systems ISO14001 and OHSAS18001
• Manage the execution of site wide risk assessments, site safety inductions and safety inspections.  Represent the company at key corporate meetings and manage the EHS committee meetings and corrective actions
• Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses to identify root causes and determine future prevention. Determine and implement correction actions where necessary
• Manage and implement the Occupational Health policy and practices within the company, including the promotion of company employee wellbeing initiatives
• Develop EHS training policy and initiatives
• Manage and lead of the environmental footprint practices on site  
• Liaise with regulators, as required
• Manage, lead and develop EHS Coordinator
 
The relevant candidate is educated to degree calibre in EHS or related field, such as occupational hygiene, engineering, or science.  Candidates will have proven experience of driving strategic and hands on EHSE / health and safety in a manufacturing or engineering environment.  You will have a professional certification (NEBOSH Diploma, IEMA or equivalent), and experience in effectively engaging key stakeholders and employees.  We would also want this person to have experience in completing various EHS based assessments and audits (COSHH, PUWER etc).
