An exciting opportunity has become available to join one of Wiltshire's leading Colleges as A mechanical engineering lecturer; the successful candidate will be an experienced engineer as well as a qualified Level 5 teacher who can demonstrate considerable experience. If successful for the position of mechanical lecturer you will be entitled to a salary of £32,000 - £40,000 DOE + an excellent benefit package.
The roles, specific tasks and responsibilities of the post are neither exhaustive nor exclusive. Subject to prevailing policies of the Board and the requirements of the day-to-day running of the College, these may be adjusted by the Principal or their designated deputy according to the needs of the organisation itself.
1. Key Roles & Accountabilities

* To deliver high quality teaching and learning by providing students with a planned learning experience, managing the learning process, guiding and supporting learners.
* Acting as personal tutor to a group of students and provide pastoral care.
* To provide assignment and assessment material appropriate to each specific programme.
* To ensure effective co-ordination of curriculum in the study centres.
* To evaluate and assess the work of students in relation to the curriculum criteria.
* To produce schemes of work and lesson plans in accordance with current best practice.
* To set and assess work and provide opportunities for student feedback.
* To produce schemes of work appropriate to the curriculum area.
* To engage with the management team to ensure high quality teaching and learning occurs.
* To work towards and exceed if possible, individual achievement objectives and success measures for your groups, becoming familiar with benchmarks and other measures of success.
* To attend programme area meetings and to contribute to the continual quality improvement mechanisms.
* To keep accurate and effective systems of administration which support the student and college needs.
* Undertake an annual teaching commitment of up to 864 hours (pro rata), dependent on number of courses.

Professional Development

All teaching staff must:

* Start lessons on time.
* Update their knowledge of their subject both practical and theory.
* Reflect critically on their teaching practice, materials and strategies used and how their own performance can be improved.
* Discuss lesson observations grades annually at their appraisal and agree how their performance can be improved and where appropriate agree what actions can be taken for further improvement.

* Other Duties

The Post Holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the Job Description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties of the level of responsibility entailed. Such variations are a common occurrence and would not of themselves justify the re-evaluation of a post. In cases, however, where a permanent and substantial change in the duties and responsibilities of a post occurs, consistent with a higher level of responsibility, then the post will be eligible for re-evaluation.

Health and Safety

* The post holder will agree, as part of the contract of employment, to comply with their duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and any Health and Safety Regulations issued under the Act, and to cooperate with the College to enable it to carry out its health and safety duties under the Act. Failure to comply with health and safety duties, regulations, work rules and procedures regarding health and safety, may lead to disciplinary action.
In order to be successful as a mechanical lecturer you must have the following;
* Teaching qualification at Level 5 e.g. Certificate in Education, or commitment to gaining within the timescales laid out by the IFL teaching requirement
* Level 5/6 Qualification in Engineering
* Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent) or commitment to gaining within 24 months of commencement of employment
* Relevant industry experience
* Ability to teach Level 3 BTEC to Level 5 HND.
* To teach thermal dynamics, power fluid, Engineering principals, Electro mechanical/ Electrical/Electronics / pneumatics / hydraulics/ further maths
* Significant and recent work with adult learners in a relevant context
* An understanding of current developments in related field
* Knowledge of assessment procedures
* Background in pneumatics and hydraulics.
* Suitability and motivation to work with children and vulnerable adults
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to understand and motivate students
