Systems Accountant

My client has grown from a small, family-owned business to one of the most successful house builders in the UK. They currently employ more than 2,000 people across the UK and have earned an enviable reputation within their sector. Due to continued growth and success they are now looking to appoint a Systems Accountant to work out of their office just on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Role responsibilities:

• To lead and undertake activities that ensure the highest level of integrity of data transferred to new systems is achieved, including the definition, development and application of the testing methodologies.
• To be responsible for all of the data aspects of the COINS platform
• To be responsible for future system upgrades
• Develop a strong working knowledge of the COINS IT architecture in order to support the project team with data aspects of the build
• Assist both of the Transition Managers during data migration, with specific focus around the development of controls and reconciliations to ensure information is transferred accurately and that the system is thoroughly tested
• Develop and test automated solutions
• Lead the definition of the user acceptance testing approach for Divisions that will be used by them to validate and test the new system post-data load and prior to ‘Go Live’
• Assist in the development of COINS reporting and application of the BI software to support the delivery of a robust reporting suite
• Support the design and implementation of processes
• Oversee the implementation of the test methodology for each Division
• As a system expert, form a second line of support for the COINS system
• System administration of the COINS system e.g. access rights, new user accounts etc
• Monthly reporting from the COINS system e.g. Group Management Accounts, valuation gains and losses etc
• Take the lead on all system upgrades to the COINS system
• Assist and / or train staff in how to use the systems and spreadsheets

Person specification:

• 5+ years systems support and administration experience
• 5+ years of ETL and SQL query tools
• Financial, Business or IT related degree
• Expert knowledge of SQL, and knowledge of other query tools
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience of working on major data migration projects for large customers (working on a COINS data migration project would be a distinct advantage)
• Financial and accounting background would be advantageous
• Must be commercially focused, with the ability to communicate to all levels from executive management down to clerical staff
• Good communicator with the ability to understand operational sensitivities, such that migration tasks take full account of these
• A problem solver with a good analytical mind to think through problems and arrive at the most appropriate solution
• Willingness to travel to other company sites

• Accountancy training (e.g. ACA, CIMA etc)
• Experience of SQL server performance tuning and monitoring
• Additional IT professional qualifications such as BCS Diploma etc
