Direct Appointments is currently working with a rapidly expanding recycling technology and engineering Company, who require a Buyer/Planner with experience in materials management and production planning to be based at their HQ site in Swindon, Wiltshire. Working closely with and reporting directly to the Manufacturing Director, the Buyer/Planner should ideally possess planning, purchasing / buying experience within a manufacturing environment.

This is a very busy and hands on role that will require someone who is used to working under pressure, has excellent attention to detail, possesses excellent planning skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

The role of Buyer/Planner will involve the development and delivery of essential materials management and production planning infrastructure to support the assembly of new plant machinery. In addition, the Buyer will be responsible for the management of service levels for consumables and spare parts to support site operations, including the assembly, maintenance and upgrade planning of existing plant machinery.

Key Responsibilities of the Buyer/Planner
• Working with the Manufacturing Director, you will ensure plant parts, materials and consumables are purchased at the most competitive price, delivered on time and meet the quality standards set by the Company.
• Develop and maintain the Manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Implement and manage an Engineering Change System to optimise implementation time and minimise obsolescence.
• Implement a materials management system to assure parts availability in support of the product development programme.
• Create and execute a Production Plan for new plant machinery.
• Plan and co-ordinate materials and labour requirements for the Engineering improvements.
• Establish and operate a materials management system to optimise spare parts and consumables availability for the existing plant machinery.
• Work closely with the Sales and Marketing team to plan and deliver production requirements.
• Manage 3rd party logistics providers to assure company products are stored and maintained in compliance with appropriate regulations.
• Carry out comprehensive reviews of supplier performance, identifying and implementing continued improvement to supply chain management.

Essential Skills of the Buyer/Planner

• A proven track record of working in an OEM production environment, specifically in a
materials / inventory / production planning role.
• Familiar with ERP operation and maintenance.
• Managing Engineering Change Control processes.
• ABC inventory classification and materials management system deployment.
• Skilled in Inventory accuracy management.
• Experienced in expediting deliveries with suppliers.
• A good knowledge of MS office, Excel in particular.

Desirable Skills and Competencies of the Buyer/Planner
• Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) Qualification would be an advantage.
• Experience in a pull based materials management system – Heijunka, Kanban, sequencing.
• A previous background in a lean manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
