Head of Engineering - Download Giant

With a 250 strong engineering function deploying complex .NET applications to the Cloud following Agile, Scrum and CI/CD principles across numerous teams, the UK arm of this download-based media provider are keen to hire a Head of Engineering to create a centre of excellent and drive modern Engineering best practice across the function.

Change is key to this role. While technically the business is in a very good place, there is a need to set clear standards for best practice engineering and delivery right across the function, and to broaden the management-level expertise currently present in the department.

All development is based on the Microsoft stack with scrum teams typically including Scrum Masters, Engineers, QA and DevOps. A separate team, headed up by Principles, govern the best use of Engineering, Agile and DevOps already exists, so the foundations of a good Engineering practice are already in place. This role is to create a single message of what good looks like and nurture this capability towards a world class Engineering function.

Working closely with the principles, you'll establish a roadmap for process change focused on engineering efficiency and best practise, which you'll guide your six direct reports in implementing, reporting back to the CTO on monthly progress and results.

As well as guiding your reports, you'll take overall ownership of hiring into the teams, determine how they will be shaped and where existing resources can be re-positioned for maximum cost effectiveness and impact.

We're looking for experienced Heads of Engineering or VP's of Engineering keen to take the "next step" who are have proven influencing skills. You'll need prior experience in online, specifically B2C, and you'll have broad knowledge of embedding Agile and Scrum as a core philosophy within engineering and it's various streams,such as Scrum, Engineering, QA, DevOps, etc.
