Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Specialist Environmental Health Officer (Housing Standards & Strategy) on a 3 month contract, with a possibility of an extension. They would like someone who has the experience and knowledge in the following:

To assist the Principal Housing Standards and Strategy Officer in the management of the Housing Standards Section to ensure efficient service delivery, including the allocation and implementation of work programs.

To undertake the Council's Housing Enforcement & Environmental Health responsibilities through response to complaints, programmed inspections, applications and consultations having due regard to both internal and statutory guidance.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

* To assist and support the Principal Housing Standards & Strategy Officer & Strategic Housing Services Manager in the provision of a service that meets statutory requirements, the published policies of the Council and the needs of the community.
* In the absence of the Principal Housing Standards & Strategy Officer to deputise, ensuring continuity and quality of service is maintained within the Housing Standards Section in accordance with the service operational plan.
* To assist with the development of the operational plan.
* To provide technical guidance and support to officers within the Housing Standards Section.
* To lead on more complex initiatives, investigations and projects.
* To provide professional / technical advice on all relevant issues associated with the Housing Standards service, to the Council, other bodies and members of the public as required.
* To process and make recommendations on planning and licensing applications in respect of all matters relating to the responsibilities of your relevant section.
* To participate in the development and formulation of the Department's policies and strategies in relation to environmental health & private sector housing matters.
* Where authorised to act as an Officer or Inspector under Environmental Health and Licensing legislation on behalf of the Council, to ensure statutory responsibilities are properly and effectively discharged.

JOB ACTIVITIES

* To organise workload within the Housing Standards Team so that the priorities and responsibilities of the Departmental Service Plans are met in an effective, efficient and economical manner.
* To ensure that all duties and responsibilities for the Housing Standards Team are undertaken in accordance with the Council's Health and Safety Policy.
* To support and inform the development of the Housing Standards Team through research and knowledge of improved IT systems, legislative changes and examples of good practice.
* To maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of all legislation and areas of work which may be allocated to Housing Standards Team and the post holder.
* To undertake programmed and reactive inspections, surveys and investigations under all relevant Environmental Health legislation.
* To prepare reports, statutory notices, collate information, maintain and up-date records and make recommendations for change as appropriate.
* To issue advice, guidance and generate correspondence in line with the Department's policies and procedures.
* To prepare case reports and witness statements and make recommendations for legal proceedings.
* To attend court, tribunals and public enquiries and act as an expert witness in Environmental Health & Private Sector Housing issues on behalf of the Council.
* To prepare Committee Reports and attend Committee Meetings and Public Meetings as necessary.
* To undertake training to businesses, the public, groups and organisations and other promotional activities and to improve general awareness in Environmental Health & Private Sector Housing matters.
* To participate in the Council's out-of-hours standby service for Housing & Public Protection matters and to undertake planned visits out of hours.
* To ensure that the Council's Equal Opportunities Policies are fully represented in all areas of work including employment policies and practice and service delivery.

£25.00 an hour through PAYE, however there is another option you can go through which is Umbrella
