Software Technician – PLC, HMI, SCADA

This opportunity for a Software Technician whose primary role will be to work on PLC, HMI and SCADA software development for projects across a range of industrial applications.

This company specialise in the manufacture of bespoke control systems taking projects from concept to design, manufacture, software, installation, commissioning and ongoing support. We also offer remote support under service contracts. We work as a team within the company as well as with third party engineers on our customer’s sites.

The successful applicant’s primary role will be the generation of PLC, HMI and SCADA software for the control systems we manufacture. They will also be expected to be involved in all stages of a project including control panel production, installation and commissioning. Projects may involve travel to customers’ sites and overnight stays, sometimes for extended periods. Occasionally, site work may be abroad.

Applicants for this position must have the right to work in the UK without restriction, and hold a full driving licence.

• Generation of PLC, HMI and SCADA software
• In house / on site software testing and commissioning
• Assisting in system design and specification
• Assisting with control panel production
• Assisting on site installations
• Producing system manuals and technical documentation
• Reporting back to the company directors on project progress and workload

Essential Requirements:
• Knowledge of PLC programming using ladder logic
• Knowledge of programming HMI systems
• Ability to read and understand electrical drawings
• Full clean UK Driving Licence

Desirable Skills:

• Knowledge of Allen Bradley, Omron or Siemens PLC and HMI systems
• (training for specific software packages will be considered as appropriate)
• Knowledge of structured text, function block programming, and ladder logic
• to IEC61131 standards
• Background knowledge of SCADA systems
• Working knowledge of Windows networking and operating systems
• Experience of database implementation, tools and platforms such as SQL
• Knowledge of mechanical & electrical systems in an industrial setting
• An understanding of electrical standards and design such as LV motor control
• and control circuits.
• Working knowledge of industrial safety standards
• Knowledge of Visual BASIC or other similar programming languages
• To have a CSCS site safety qualification or equivalent
