Special Needs Teacher (Secondary SLD)

* Secondary Class
* 4 SLD pupils
* Permanent Job
* Kensington and Chelsea Based Independent SEN School
* Fantastic Facilities
* Full time
* Starting September
* Pay depending on experience

A small but fantastically well resources independent special needs (SEN) school based in the Kensingtion and Chelsea area of West London is seeking an SEN teacher with recent SLD experience to join their team from September on a permanent contract. Experienced SEN teachers with UK or equivalent qualifications and experience are encouraged to apply today. The Headteacher is also happy to support experienced mainstream teachers make the move into an SEN school/SLD class.

The successful applicant will be teaching a mixed KS3 class of 8 pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD.) The majority of the children have additional medical and sensory needs as well as physical impairments. The class are all working at levels equivalent to those aged between 3 and 6 years old. As a result experience of the EYFS curriculum or primary could be advantageous, though not essential. The class is supported by two full time LSA/TAs and iPad gridplayer, Communication in Print and PECs to aid communication and social development.

Much of the focus is on a sensory curriculum with a particular focus on developing social and communication skills. You will be working alongside two really friendly learning support assistants (LSAs) who know the children and the school procedures and will help you get up to speed quickly. Some experience of PECS and gridplayer would be advantageous but training is available and both are inherently simplistic and therefore easy to pick up.

The successful candidate will be flexible, with the ability to use their own initiative where required. Experience working in an SEN school or with SLD children would be an advantage but the school are clear that they want a good teacher first and foremost - excellent training is available
