The Family Support Team leads on the delivery of targeted support services to families meeting the ‘Troubled Families’ criteria. It forms part of the broader Family Support Service delivering statutory and non-statutory assessments and family support interventions to children and families of all ages across the borough. The Family Support Service, through a number of Family Units delivers outcome focused family support aimed at supporting children to safely remain living within their own families and engage positively with community based services.

The Family Support Unit works alongside case holding practitioners in the Family Units which are led by Consultant Social Workers and with other case holding practitioners across CYPS who are working as the lead professional with identified Troubled Families.

The post holder will provide leadership and management to Family Practitioners working with children, young people and their families in the delivery of targeted interventions as defined by the Troubled Families criteria. The post holder will also direct the day to day work of commissioned services and partners working alongside the Family Support Unit to ensure that families meeting the Troubled Families criteria receive practical support to help them achieve timely, positive and sustainable outcomes.

Interventions are delivered in the family home or other community settings and support the parenting role and child behaviour through the application of evidenced-based methodologies that promotes positive family interaction, positive behavioural/environmental change and a good standard of care
