The main purpose of the role is to undertake effective decision-making regarding security vetting of individuals both for internal force applicants and external Police National Contractors Vetting Scheme.

Main Responsibilities:
To exercise effective decision-making in granting, refusing or withdrawing Force or Non Police Personnel Vetting and informing Vetting management accordingly.

To ensure effective case management of vetting files undertaking all tasks required to progress cases to conclusion to the level appropriate to the roles of the individuals.

To interrogate the Police National Computer, Police National Database, Complaints System and other related computer systems including financial systems belonging to credit agencies for the purpose of confidential vetting of personnel.

To carry out vetting interviews, face to face / telephone and produce reports / summaries / rationales to support final decision.  Preparing files for, and attending appeals panels.

Provide advice and information over the telephone or in person on a wide range of queries in accordance with the policy and procedures of vetting, referring relevant issues for follow up to Line Management.

To ensure that security vetting review and aftercare requirements are effectively managed and undertaken.

To prioritise own workload ensuring deadlines are achieved and high quality of service to the customer is maintained.

Ensuring confidentiality of information in respect of records maintained and tasks undertaken in accordance with the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation.

To ensure that the processes within the vetting function are completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with the policies and procedures utilising computer based systems and manual systems where appropriate.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.

Experience/Skills:  
5 A-C grade GCSE`s (or equivalent) including English language.

An understanding of relevant policy / legislation (e.g. Data Protection Act, Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and National Vetting Policy.

Experience of researching, interpreting and collating complex information and presenting accurate, comprehensive documentation demonstrating thorough attention to detail.

Able to assimilate and apply information, make decisions and act on own judgement.

Able to work to strict deadlines, managing a high and diverse workload.

Experience of investigative interviewing.

Ability to analyse, assimilate and record complex information interpret and apply legislation / policy and make informed recommendations and decisions.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to communicate with officers, staff and members of the public.

Ability to enter information accurately using appropriate IT systems. 

Ability to demonstrate and maintain the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality.

Proven ability to manage high process driven workloads in accordance with strict deadlines.
