Our client is a well-known Engineering company based in Reading, looking to recruit a Sales Manager with a background within Engineering/Manufacturing.


This role will be focused on identifying and developing sales growth for the organisation from established clients. You will work in conjunction with the management team and be responsible for the profitability and success of the company with the aim of achieving the organisations plan for growth

This is a senior appointment and the job holder will be expected to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.

Specific Accountabilities

To maintain and increase sales revenue and profitability by promoting the company’s services and capabilities.

To create a clear structured and quantifiable plan for the growth of the company’s revenues by setting appropriate targets and specifying the actions and resources needed to achieve them in both existing and potential accounts.

To lead and develop the sales team, to set, agree and review objectives. Provide regular coaching and development. Plan and budget the sales resources needed to achieve revenue objectives including recruiting as necessary. To support the sales team and to be actively involved in closing deals and in contract negotiation

To develop close relationships with key contacts in client companies and to deal with commercial issues in ways which enhance and strengthen their interests.

Develop a plan and process to qualify leads quickly in order to ascertain short, medium and longer term opportunities. Ensuring quotations are given in the appropriate timescale and price to maximise the benefits of the Company’s internal performance. Track pipeline, develop and communicate forecasts.

To help clarify both operational and technical issues arising from enquiries and orders and to work closely with manufacturing to ensure that optimal solutions are proposed in response to enquiries.

To identify ways by which the company can improve its impact in the market and with approval to implement strategies which will increase the clients penetration of every relevant sector.

To monitor potential threats to the company’s revenues and to devise policies to overcome them. Spot opportunities, trends and risks emerging and create competitive offerings.

Background and Experience

The person selected for this position should ideally have at least 5 years in sales and sales management experience in sheet metal or a related industry. Supervisory and management experience over a small sales team is important. The candidate should have experience of selling into niche markets with B2B sales experience. The person selected should have a track record of building and developing sales forecasting methods, improving margins and increasing revenue. The person will need to work in a culture that emphasises the partnership approach and be effective in working with the management team that reaches decisions by consensus.
