DURATION: Up to 2 months (with the potential for permanent opportunities)

SALARY: £10.00 - £11.00 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)

START DATE: ASAP

HOURS: Rotating shift system – 4 shifts on & 4 shifts off, including weekdays, weekends and waking nights

An expanding Welsh Homeless Charity has approached BRC seeking an experienced Project Worker to start at short notice on a 2 month temporary contract, which could potentially lead to further permanent employment opportunities.

You will be working as part of a team who provide 24 hours support within a wet homeless hostel in central Cardiff. The hostel offers temporary accommodation for homeless clients who have multiple support needs including mental health issues or people with drug and alcohol issues.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- You will cover both day shifts (8am- 8:30pm) and waking night shifts (8pm-8:30am) on a rolling rota
- Support the delivery of services that assist service users to achieve recovery goals, positive outcomes and community re-integration, maximising engagement and retention
- Key work a caseload of clients and provide them with advice and support
- Provide support through the provision of 121`s, group work and workshop delivery
- Interview prospective clients and to offer them accommodation at the scheme as appropriate
- Encourage clients to participate in activities to help to build confidence and enhance life skills
- Work collaboratively with other services to provide interventions to support and motivate service users and meet their needs through all stages of their individual recovery journey
- Assess risk, identify behaviours and triggers that may increase a resident`s risk of harm to themselves and others
- Promote training and educational opportunities
- Fully inform service users about their recovery/treatment options, involve them in decisions and consent, and encourage them to take opportunities to achieve a sustained recovery.
- Liaise with Social Services, the Benefit Agency, Housing Department, Managers, Health and Safety and other relevant agencies, on matters affecting prospective and current clients of the scheme
- Advise clients on re-housing options and make referrals to other agencies in relation to temporary and permanent accommodation
- Advise on welfare benefits where appropriate and ensure that clients know where to claim and that the right type and amount of benefit is claimed

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Recent experience of providing practical and emotional support to vulnerable clients within a supported housing setting
- Confident in your own ability to work with challenging clients who have complex mental health and substance misuse issues
- You must be available to work days and waking night shifts on a rota

DESIREABLE REQUIRMENTS:

- Experience of providing support to homeless clients within a hostel or supported housing project
