Purpose

▪ Ensure safe working in all company workplaces without harm to people, property or the environment
▪ To implement, maintain, manage and improve the Environmental, Health and Safety Management (EHS) System which meets as a minimum the requirements of OHSAS-18001 and BS-EN-ISO-14001.
▪ To provide a competent focal point for internal and external matters relating to EHS.
▪ To ensure that EHS concerns are resolved through internal and external agreement and the appropriate EHS standards are established and maintained.
▪ Establish minimum requirements for EHS to be implemented irrespective of industry specifications.
▪ Drive continuous improvement across all aspects of the company`s operations and implement additional ISO standards or similar that the Board directs in the future.
▪ Provide competent advice to management with regards EHS legal compliance.

Context

The role is a key part of senior management structure focussing on delivering leadership and best practice EHS management and compliance. The post holder will be the initial focal point providing competent knowledge and advice on all matters EHS related.

Responsibilities

▪ Ensure company EHS policies and procedures meet as a minimum, legislative requirements.
▪ Undertake internal and external EHS audits.
▪ Undertake incident investigation and reporting, where required.
▪ Provide EHS advice, coaching, training, information and guidance.
▪ Collate adverse event data (near misses, first aids, incidents, diseases, dangerous occurrences) from all company workplaces on a monthly and annual basis producing EHS statistics for Board and Group
▪ Compile monthly and annual EHS statistics and submit to Group.
▪ Chair EHS committee meetings.
▪ Ensure legally required notices are displayed in company premises.
▪ Remain knowledgeable of current legislation, initiatives and best practice within the field of manufacturing and construction EHS management.
▪ Prepare monthly safety reports for senior management meetings identifying key issues, initiatives and safety performance.
▪ Structure and standardise EHS systems, practices and procedures, and maintain all required statutory records and reports.
▪ Notify all adverse events in compliance with company policy, HSE guidance and legal expectations.
▪ Develop and implement EHS programmes utilising knowledge of engineering technology, industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, industrial regulations, standards, and best practices where practicable.
▪ Identify safety related training requirements for all company employees and liaise with Human Resources department to compile training programmes, training budgets and training providers.
▪ To investigate and resolve corrective/preventative actions relating to EHS issues.
▪ To represent the company on the BESA EHS Committee and other industry bodies.
▪ To provide a lead point of contact with the client for matters relating to EHS compliance.
▪ Ability to develop client and supplier relationships ensuring compliance with EHS relevant standards, specifications and instructions.

Essential
▪ Experience of managing a team of EHS professionals and delivering against operational objectives.
▪ NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent in Health and Safety.
▪ Skills Certification Scheme Card (SCSC) holder.
▪ EHS Auditor / Lead Auditor qualified.
▪ Detailed knowledge and experience of manufacturing and construction EHS requirements including legal
compliance.
▪ Computer literate (Microsoft Office) with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Highly Desirable (but not essential)
▪ Experience of managing EHS on large scale projects in highly regulated sectors in particular the nuclear
sector.
▪ British safety Council Level – 6 Diploma or MSc Occupational Health, Safety and Environment.
▪ IOSH membership.
▪ UK security clearance including disclosure Scotland (baseline or higher).
