Job Description

Shift Engineer

Purpose of Role:
• To ensure efficient, on-target production has been achieved by maintenance of assets and assured technical capabilities and compliance with regulatory requirements.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDE:
Note: responsibilities may be added or varied to respond to the demands of the business.
Major Activities and Responsibilities
(Job role primarily includes, but is not limited to): • Ensure an effective relationship is maintained with Production Management and Group Leaders in order to take direction and effectively prioritise tasks in the most appropriate way to maximise Production effectiveness.
• Work with contracted tradesmen in carrying out designated tasks ensuring all site policies, particularly Health and Safety, are applied.
• Proactively respond to Engineering issues raised through site performance monitoring systems to improve Production OEE.
• To work closely with the hygiene team to ensure machines are prepared to enable designated cleaning procedures from a scheduled time table.
• To provide support in pre-production line checks to ensure quality and high-efficiency start-ups.
• Ensure business maintains maximum effectiveness and benefit from existing site technology.
• Ensure that you work to meet with legislative and Company ethical standards in terms of safety, and food hygiene.
• Utilise site systems (Holistech), to improve production effectiveness.
• Apply a “right first time” mentality to equipment maintenance and performance

Outputs & Deliverables: • Ensure compliance with legislative, moral and European directive requirements
• Ensure an environment and culture of safe working practices are understood and maintained, by personally demonstrating safe behaviour.
• Work closely with the hygiene team to ensure a food safe environment is maintained.
• Proactively participate a planned maintenance programme with consideration to optimising production
• Support the integration of the engineering night shift function into the manufacturing operation ensuring that the overall technical and operational expertise of the factory is enhanced. Through this initiative, develop higher levels of plant ownership, increasing plant/machinery utilisation and performance.
• With the site management team, ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimised and improved for the needs of the business.
• Effectively use the preventative maintenance process.
• Utilise site systems to drive performance and OEE.
• Apply a “right first time” mentality to equipment maintenance and performance
• Promote a positive team culture to achieve the site targets alongside manufacturing
• Work closely with support functions (Technical and Hygiene) to ensure actions from audits are kept to a minimum and communicate all outstanding issues.
• Communicate daily with production group leaders to ensure planned maintenance and engineering breakdowns are dealt with effectively to reduce the amount of down time.

Background & Profile: • Driving Licence essential
• Engineering or related NVQ or City & Guilds qualification
• At least 3 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
• Use of engineering management software
