Our client has a vacancy for a Software Engineer, based at their head office in South Cumbria. The role is initially a 2 year fixed term contract.

Responsible for the full life cycle development of practical, innovative and cost effective software and firmware for LED lighting systems used in Aerospace and Military applications.

• Contributes to the output of the design team through the progress of design projects, regularly reporting design status, technical issues, schedule and cost to the management and project teams
• Advance software development projects through the full life cycle from initial concept through requirements, design, coding, verification, validation and certification, ensuring high quality, sustainable products that meet stakeholder specification are achieved.
• Produce formal documentation as required
• Work in accordance with design milestones to guarantee specifications are met and projects can progress on time to the next stage
• Critically review software design processes identifying areas of improvement, highlighting and implementing actions in order to promote maximum efficiency and continuous improvement
• Monitor and maintain departmental documentation systems in accordance with design and project management processes, agreed procedures and company standards.
• Apply knowledge of the latest developments in software development techniques to ensure the business remains a market leader and continues to meet customer demand

Degree in Software Engineering or similar subject.

Significant full life cycle software development within a relevant industry, ideally Aerospace, Military or Automotive. Some experience of digital hardware design and interfacing.

Embedded C
MISRA C safety Critical
Microcontroller experience (16Bit & 8 Bit)
Verification/Debugging knowledge (writing Test scripts, Low level Unit testing and Integration testing)
Extensive knowledge of 8 and 16bit microprocessors/microcontrollers in including PIC18 and DSPIC
Producing formal documentation in accordance with DO-178B and other standards
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Excellent Analytical and Problem Solving skills
Excellent communication skills, written and presentation skills

Aerospace Standards DO-178B (preferred) or Automotive standards, LDRA (TBrun) experience.
Electronic Hardware design knowledge schematic, PCB and simulation using Altium designer or similar

Self-driven with a positive outlook and the ability to work equally well as a part of a team, or as an individual, whilst managing multiple projects and priorities.
A Good communicator, well presented and sufficiently mobile and flexible to travel.
Keen to adopt new experiences and responsibility in order to develop new skills and expand knowledge base.

Pay is :£30 to £35 per hour LTD
