Overall Job Purpose:

This contract provides a dedicated 24/5 support operation at a £1billion manufacturing facility in Wolverhampton.

The overall purpose of this position is to manage the collection, processing and removal off site of all waste product as well as lead, coach, mentor and manage both an established team of around 20 waste operatives including supervision, working across two dedicated waste yards, as well as recruitment and training of future employees on an expanding state of the art automotive manufacturing facility.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

To Maintain legal compliance with Health and Safety legislation, ensuring that all operations are undertaken in a safe manner with special focus on: -
All necessary risk assessments and method statements are available.
All necessary current best practice is available and used.
All necessary visual aids are available and used.
Ensure staff are thoroughly trained in all safety aspects relating to their job.
Ensure and maintain legal compliance with applicable waste legislation.
Ensure compliance with the company’s waste management minimisation/reduction projects, maintaining JLR, EMC policy of ‘Zero to Landfill’.
Produce and implement control procedures to the waste management programme
Ensure Duty of Care, segregation/bin audits are completed and documented
To establish and maintain a clear understanding of customer quality standards and operate audit processes that ensures both Customers and company expectations are met.
Attend and actively participate in cross-JLR waste focus meetings sharing best practice and cost-down initiatives with Solihull, Castle Bromwich and Halewood plants
Control all costs relating to the operation via the recognised Purchasing systems.
Ability to liaise with outside contractors, undertaking the effective building and maintenance of client relationships ensuring the company image suitability represents the high standards required by the Company
To establish and maintain a clear understanding of customer quality standards and operate audit processes that ensures both Customer and company expectations are met.
Accountable for waste mapping and associated improvements
Building strong relationships and ties with senior management
Manage personnel (training, absence, disciplinary) through supervisors
Develop, coach and mentor waste supervisors and team leaders
Take active role in senior management reviews to communicate results and KPI’s
Maintain reports on waste movement and costs on a monthly basis
Provide support to Contract Manager in planning, prioritising and scheduling Cleaning activities and headcount to meet all Service Level Agreements & KPI’s

Other Requirements

The role is full time days with occasional night visits (24 per year) and weekend work as required to suit the needs of the contract.
To lead audit activities as required.
Undertake any additional duties or responsibilities that are deemed required by the business in supporting the daily operation of the contract.

Person Specification

Formal Qualifications

Essential: HNC qualification. Internal Auditor Trained, IOSH or equivalent qualification
Desirable: Degree in technical qualification NEBOSH

Knowledge

Essential: Health and Safety regulations and Legislation, Managing in a waste environment, Computer literate
Desirable: LEAN Principles (5’S, 8D, Root cause analysis)

Experience

Essential: Proven management skills, Planning provision of resource, People Management, Leading and support teams and individuals, Problem solving – aptitude, Handling customer queries and complaints, Quotations, CRM
Desirable: Previous Waste management experience, LEAN manufacturing

Skills

Essential: Ability to delegate, Ability to work under pressure, Customer service, Articulate communication skills both oral and written, Completes tasks from start to finish, Cost Control, Ability to deliver quality outputs within agreed timescales
