Materials Controller


£28,000-£30,000 per annum

Major Technical is working in partnership with an internationally renowned engineering firm to recruit a Senior Planning Engineer to join their facility in Sheffield.


- ONC / BTEC level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or previous experience in mechanical engineering or design
- Experience from within an engineering, manufacturing company undertaking fabrication, machining and assembly.
- The ability to communicate effectively across the business with project managers, engineers, planners, manufacturing and purchasing.
- Evidence of the ability to organise work flow to meet a Critical Path.
- Knowledge of IT systems including project planning, spreadsheets and CAD.

Main Duties:

- Read engineering drawings and extract information required for the creation of project Bills of Materials, Parts Lists within a MRP including where relevant dimensions, specifications, quality, documentation and delivery requirements.
- Expediting of materials, components and sub-assemblies in order to ensure project critical path requirements are not compromised.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineers so parts are input into the MRP with the correct structure and process for Works Orders to be produced for all manufactured components.
- Communicate with Engineering regarding drawing release, design changes and detailed BOM and part structures.
- Work with Procurement for input of proprietary items and data regarding approved suppliers for all Parts and material input in the MRP.
- Produce information for Purchase Requisitions from the MRP for the Project Manager and support with other engineering information to allow the purchase of all Parts.
- Ensure goods inward documentation requirements are identified and inputted into MRP system. Follow up on goods received when anomalies occur.
- Ensure required, anticipated and actual delivery dates are regularly updated within the MRP and any non-availability, delays or dispensations associated with ordered goods are brought to the attention of the Project Manager as soon as practicable.
- Attend handover meetings and participate in key project decision making meetings.
