Senior Planning Engineer
£37,500 to £40,000 per annum

Major Technical is working in partnership with an internationally renowned engineering firm to recruit a Senior Planning Engineer to join their facility in Sheffield.


Minimum Qualifications:

- ONC / HNC / HND in related engineering discipline.
- Time served / equivalent engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Engineering or business related degree.
- Prince2 and/or APM accreditation.


- The successful candidate must be able to create projects from a blank Primavera template and fully cost and resource load the schedule in accordance with the clients Invitation to Tender (ITT).
- The candidate must also have a good working knowledge of risk management and be able to identify and track client impacts on the plan.
- Ideally the successful candidate will have onsite experience and be able to influence others on good project planning techniques.
- Multimillion pound project experience, with cost and resource planning, would be preferential.

Key Skills:

- Primavera experience essential, preferably trained to advanced level.
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Project, due to supplier submissions.
- Knowledge of good Project Management techniques.
- Knowledge of good Project Planning techniques.
- Knowledge of good Cost Control practices.
- Competent in Microsoft Office tools.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Excel and formula functions.


- Drive and adaptability.
- Ability to listen and provide comments where appropriate.
- Must be able to work in a team led environment.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects.
- Can communicate with all people at every level of the business.

Key Duties:
Planning Team:

- Provide a complete planning service to the projects to which the candidate is assigned.
- Produce a cost and resource loaded plan, which fits the projects contractual budget.
- Can produce S-Curves from exported Primavera data.
- Can produce Earned Value Management indices.
- Be comfortable and confident in producing client reports.
- Can interpret and analyse data so that the outputs can be explained to others.

Business Duties:

- Can extrapolate resources and roll up key resource such as Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Project Controls for external reporting.
- Can produce accurate forecasts, from the Primavera plan, for internal financial reporting purposes.
- Can communicate good planning processes and techniques, as part of being a champion for a controlled and structured approach to project delivery
