Mechanical Design Engineer ( Special Purpose Machinery )

Mechanical Design Engineer required to be responsible for all mechanical design projects, special purpose machinery, tooling and associated production equipment.

The company operate in over 40 countries worldwide and are renowned for quality, innovation and continuous product development - you will be joining an established successful team and be responsible for producing conceptual models and drawing prior to creating a full set of general assembly and detailed manufacturing drawings. This role also involves an element of machine build so you will have a varied and hands on dimension to a design position - enabling you to not just design the product but get involved in the build and test process before stripping and sending to both international and national clients. Because of the client base there is also the opportunity for travel once you have become established within the company.

The job will involve working with a small design team, to ensure both business targets and project time-scales can be achieved. This is a very important role within the company reporting to the Engineering Development manager.

Skills + Experience

Advanced use of Solidworks 3D and AutoCAD software packages for product design and assembly documentation
Ability in reading technical drawings, understanding part tolerances, calculate stress and strain
Ability to document and update any required design changes
Ability to manage a project through and meet time-scales
Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel packages
Degree or HNC/ HND in Mechanical Engineering
A Good Project skillset

Experience:

Graduate in mechanical engineering or related discipline (individuals with HNC and relevant industrial experience will be considered)
Experience working on mechanical systems and equipment (preferably special purpose machinery)
Competency in reading and understanding complicated engineering drawings and specifications, stress and strain calculations.
Strong problem-solving skills.
A sound knowledge of computer assisted design using Solidworks 2D and 3D capabilities
An excellent grasp of engineering and design principles

Role:

Producing Solidworks 3D and 2D CAD mechanical designs, the projects are largely bespoke to suit the customer s needs.
Working within a small team you will have a good opportunity to take ownership of design projects, getting involved in new product development and liaising with the production team frequently.
You will be expected to have the capability of working to high engineering standards within budgets and time-scales set by customers.
The main function will be to produce design related documentation inclusive of manufacturing drawings and supporting calculations where required
Designing and implementing cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability.
Participate in the quality improvement process so that problems are tackled systematically and eliminated through continuous improvement.
Liaison with suppliers/client to ensure equipment is supplied in accordance with project requirements.

The right candidate will have the ability to work with a team of designers and on your own initiative. The ability to think outside the box is fundamental to success for this role as the obvious answer is not always apparent
