Public Affairs and Campaigns Officer - Midlands
The Royal British Legion is at the heart of a national network that supports our Armed Forces community through thick and thin - ensuring their unique contribution is never forgotten. Although best known for our Remembrance work and the iconic red poppy symbol, the Legion is also the largest welfare provider in the military charity sector, providing practical care, advice and assistance to serving personnel, veterans and their families. We have a long and proud campaigning history, having sought to further the interests, rights and welfare of the Armed Forces community since 1921, and we work tirelessly to safeguard the Armed Forces Covenant, which ensures that those who serve, have served and their families are not left disadvantaged by the unique nature of military life.
The Legion is seeking a talented, committed and enthusiastic public affairs and campaigns professional to join its highly effective Public Affairs and Public Policy team in a newly created role. In collaboration with Area Managers and other colleagues in the Legion’s Midlands region, you will establish a visible and vocal campaigning presence at community and local authority level across the Midlands, building relationships with key stakeholders and maximising our influence in this increasingly important area of decision-making. You will report on local policy developments and welfare trends, organise campaign events across the region, and help to establish a network of supporters locally who are willing to advocate on behalf of the Armed Forces community.
You will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of local government and community activism, and be familiar with both traditional and digital campaigning techniques. You will be a strong team player, have a proven track record of delivering campaign outcomes, have excellent communication skills, and be a self-starter who is confident working remotely.

Closing date for applications is 24th July 2017.
Interviews will take place in Birmingham the week commencing 14th August 2017.
