We have a new exciting opportunity, not to be missed! At The Scout Association we are currently looking for a Development Intern to join us in Bristol and surrounding areas. You will join us on a part time basis, working 12 hours per week on a fixed term contract for 12 months. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary pro rata of £15,975 per annum plus fantastic benefits.

About the Development Intern role

A Job with a difference - The Scout Association, with support from other funders including the Pears Foundation  have come together to provide a unique opportunity to gain experience and develop skills whilst working as part of a project team.  The project aims to open new Scouting provisions across parts of Somerset, North Somerset, BAINES, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire Scout County (youth sections for young people aged 6 -18yrs). The development interns will be lead by a Senior intern and will work with local volunteers to provide hands on practical support engaging with schools, the community, partnership organisations and parents of the new youth members.

The project aims to enable and deliver the recruitment of adults and young people and to open new sustainable Scout provisions. The induction programme and ongoing support will provide a range of training in the following areas: communication skills, project planning and organisation, presenting and training delivery, working with young people, working in a team, creative thinking and problem solving methods as well as support with IT knowledge.

What we’re looking for in our Development Intern

You will be a creative and innovative thinker with a determination to make things happen. Possess a high level of communication skills to build effective relationships with a wide range of people including; young people, potential adult volunteers, existing volunteers, community representatives, external bodies and funders. Have a willingness and potential to learn and develop from the experience. Be able to work as part of a team but also be motivated enough to work independently of direct supervision.

You must live within the project area, be a self starter and be willing to work frequent evenings (usually 2-3 a week). You understand the potential of positive activities to have a transformative effect on people lives, and share the values of The Scout Association in developing young people.
