Our client is based on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and is an award-winning Shopping and Food complex. The business comprises a Gourmet Food Hall, AA rosette Restaurant, plus outstanding Home & Garden outlets. The complex is well established and has an enviable reputation for the quality of national and local food on offer and for the exemplary shopping experience provided.
Our client has a vacancy for a General Manager with a very strong retail background gained over multi-site disciplines. Buying experience is considered very important, particularly within home wares. Experience in the specialist food division would also be a distinct advantage. What is most important is that you possess an infectious passion for retail, an eye for detail and have the ability to identify and pull together relevant trends throughout the unique departments.
People management skills are absolutely crucial and will be closely examined prior to appointment. You will need to display an outstanding ability to lead and develop the diverse teams building on the reputation for excellence that is already evident. Your communications skills will be consummate and you will possess a commercial awareness that will ensure the continued success of this sector of the business.
From a financial viewpoint, you will be able to work with your managers to ensure KPI’s are met and that annual budgets are set and adhered to. Your financial skills will also embrace capital expenditure and payroll authorisation and you will review all financial reports with the Courtyard Team and the Finance Manager on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Management of personnel is, of course, a key element in the success of this dedicated team. Through four departmental heads you will conduct all aspects of human resource management have removed interviewing, coaching departmental heads, disciplinary and grievance procedures, and coordination of training and development.
Marketing falls within this wide remit and you will work with others on the production and distribution of seasonal brochures. You will sign off and approve all advertising including in-house, magazines, local advertising and monitor the website content. Seasonal events are crucial to the success of the complex and you will be ‘up front and leading’ in all aspects that come together to make a success campaign. In most retail environments Christmas is crucial. This role is managing the ultimate Christmas experience site. Footfall at this festive period increases exponentially and you must demonstrate that you are committed and capable of managing through this important period.
This is a big remit role in a high profile establishment. Your CV will show that you are used to maintaining standards in a similar environment. Everything lands on your desk and you will be able to keep all the plates spinning and still have time to talk to your customers and understand what makes them want to visit you.
The role carries an excellent starting salary of around £40,000 pa together with executive benefits for the right person who will have demonstrated ability in all the key aspects set out above.
