Crane and Refuel Equipment Support Engineer

A vacancy has arisen for a Crane and Refuel Equipment Support Engineer to work in the Estates Crane and Refuel Equipment section based in Devonport.

The main purpose of this role is to improve the reliability and availability of Dockyard Cranes and Refuel Equipment.

This will be achieved by taking planned measures to prevent an asset from breaking down. This includes but is not limited to improving maintenance and conducting trend analysis to identify and forecast key failures. The role will also focus heavily on the timely return to service of Cranes and Refuel Equipment by supporting and leading the diagnosis and repair of assets when they breakdown.

When an asset does break down the Crane and Refuel Equipment Support Engineer shall be on scene for all major breakdowns on Crane and Refuel equipment. They will be responsible for leading the necessary technical works to return an asset to service in the quickest possible time. This will be aided by the management of a critical spares holding, key stakeholder engagement and Service Level Agreements.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • To support and diagnose Crane and Refuel Equipment breakdowns
  • Conduct trend analysis of equipment breakdown to predict failures and improve maintenance
  • To lead technical issues associated with plant and equipment maintained by the section
  • To technically represent contractors working on behalf of the section
  • To be the sections main point of contact with the design and technical authority on site.
  • To provide specialist support to equipment control systems and own the section fault diagnosis equipment (laptops etc)
  • Identify and manage critical spares
  • To coordinate Nuclear procedures in support of Crane and Refuel maintenance work.
  • To lead and manage the change control process for the section.

The successful candidate will display the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of lifting equipment, specifically Cranes and control systems.
  • Electrical/Electronic/Controls and Instrumentation Engineer
  • Ability to work at height (i.e. on Cranes)
  • IT Expert
  • Level 4 qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Apprenticeship in Electrical/Electronic/Control field of engineering
