The Company

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Systems Accountant to join a leading construction company based in the Newcastle region.

The Job

This is a full time, permanent position with a salary which is dependent on level of experience + attractive company benefits (to be discussed at interview stage).

This is an exciting opportunity to support the companies Finance and FV Team as well as their commercial staff.

Main objectives:

* To lead and undertake activities that ensure the highest level of integrity of data transferred to the new FV system is achieved, including the definition, development and application of the testing methodologies used to ensure that data is correct and can be matched (reconciled) between the two systems (GP or Excel and COINS).
* To be responsible for all of the data aspects of the COINS platform once operational divisions transition to the live environment.
* To be responsible for future system upgrades to the COINS system as required.
* To assist in the development and maintenance of other Bellway systems (e.g. Sales Monitor and BRICs).

The following list of duties and responsibilities is intended to reflect the principal elements of the Systems Accountant role only and is therefore not exhaustive.

First phase

* Support the FV project team
* Develop a strong working knowledge of the COINS IT architecture in order to support the project team
* Assist both of the Transition Managers during data migration, with specific focus around the development of controls and reconciliations to ensure information is transferred accurately and that the system is thoroughly tested.
* Develop and test automated solutions that will improve the efficiency of the testing and reconciliation of divisional data transferred into the COINS database.
* Manage follow up and resolution of data load exceptions with relevant Bellway Project Team members and/or directly with Divisions.
* Assist in the development of COINS reporting and application of the BI software to support the delivery of a robust reporting suite.
* Support the design and implementation of the ETL processes used to populate a SQL data warehouse, which will transform data sources from a number of systems including the COINS database, existing Great Plains database and data sources from other systems (such as the Sales database and the Forecasting database).

Second phase

* Oversee the implementation of the test methodology for each Division and be an integral part of the sign off process (for data integrity) for each Division prior to go live.

As a system expert, form a second line of support for the COINS system (first line being divisional Super users), including development of new reports (COINS and BI software).

* System administration of the COINS system e.g. access rights, new user accounts etc
* Monthly reporting from the COINS system e.g. Group Management Accounts, valuation gains and losses etc.
* Take the lead on all system upgrades to the COINS system
* Document all test processes and ensure this documentation is keep current throughout the project life
* Develop a good working knowledge of BRICs and Sales Monitor


Essential criteria relevant to the job

* Strong financial and accounting background
* Strong understanding of Information technology and relational Databases (ability to query data using SQL), experience of using Multi-dimensional cube BI tools, (QlikView/QlikSense,
* Power BI, TM1/Business Objects).
* Good communicator with the ability to understand operational sensitivities, such that migration tasks take full account of these.
* Customer service ethos.
* A problem solver with a good analytical mind to think through problems and arrive at the most appropriate solution.

* Commercially focused

* Focus on meeting deadlines, and will 'go the extra mile'
* Methodical with a strong attention to detail and a passion for accuracy, ensuring that uploaded data is rigorously tested.
* Enthusiastic, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to work cross functional to ensure the needs of all stakeholders are met.
* Qualifications and training - essential
* Financial, Business or IT related degree.
* Expert knowledge of SQL, and knowledge of other query tools.
* Advanced Excel

Qualifications and training - desirable

* Accountancy training (e.g. ACA, CIMA etc)
* Experience of SQL server performance tuning and monitoring.
* Additional IT professional qualifications such as BCS Diploma etc.


* 5+ years systems support and administration experience
* 5+ years of ETL and SQL query tools
* Experience of working on major data migration projects for large customers (working on a COINS data migration project would be a distinct advantage).
