Debbie Burbage Recruitment is working with a leading independent Northampton Accountancy Firm, who require a Tax and Business Services Manager to work within their small business/tax team to cover maternity leave for a minimum of 12 months. Ideally the position will be full time but part-time would be considered.

Reporting to the partners, the role will involve:

• preparation of sole trader / partnership accounts
• review of sole trader / partnership accounts prepared by other staff
• preparation of self-assessment tax returns using our IRIS software
• review of tax returns prepared by other staff
• Main point of contact for a variety of personal tax and business clients
• reconciliation of tax liabilities after computation
• review of HMRC correspondence, assessments and statements
• contact with clients to arrange delivery of information and meetings to sign off tax returns and to discuss annual accounts
• writing letters to clients and HMRC in relation to taxation matters
• Telephone contact with HMRC in relation to client taxation matters
• Providing ad-hoc advice to clients in relation to taxation matters
• Working with partners to provide advisory and tax planning services
• control of processes to ensure timely delivery of tax returns to clients
• review of client work-in-progress and production of monthly fee notes
• assisting the partner in other client related tasks

The successful candidate will have worked within a general practice, be ACCA/ACA/AAT with post-qualification experience, ATT qualification would be desirable and have:

• strong working knowledge of Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax computations and processes
• good knowledge of business tax computations
• Practical knowledge of IHT and Trust taxation is desirable but not essential
• Practical experience of Farming accounts is desirable but not essential
• good knowledge of Microsoft Office software
• proven ability to prepare and review sole trader / partnership accounts
• good organisational and time-management skills
• good skills in communicating with clients
• client focussed attitude to work
• “can do” attitude

The role is based in the Northampton but within commutable distance of Milton Keynes, Towcester, Daventry, Banbury, Brackley, Wellingborough, Leicester and Kettering
